\"Our<\/a>Leading With Our Noses?<\/h2>\n

On Friday, March 8 we had another\u00a0fantastic session with Ms. Winston at the MACC. We first made new crumpled paper masks and then built on our growing drama knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n

We first reviewed being in neutral \u2013 we are getting better at it! Then, Ms. Winston showed us how to become different characters by walking and leading<\/em> with different parts of our bodies. We first led with our noses which made us feel like detectives. We became Santa Claus by leading with our bellies. Walking and leading with our toes\u00a0made us into ballerinas and finally, leading with our chests\u00a0filled us with confidence and pride.\u00a0It\u00a0was exciting to see the students\u00a0transforming into all of these characters.<\/p>\n

Once\u00a0we\u00a0had some understanding of being in character, Ms. Winston introduced \u201cpedestrian\u201d movement.\u00a0We discussed the term pedestrian, or everyday<\/em>. What is an everyday\u00a0movement? After some thought,\u00a0students came up with some good examples: texting on a\u00a0smartphone, sneezing, yawning, waiting,\u00a0looking at your watch.\u00a0Ms. Winston then had the students practice walking while doing a pedestrian movement. The scene was great and very believeable!<\/p>\n

As our session finale, Ms. Winston pulled out some chairs and created a SkyTrain car. Students were instructed to stay in their pedestrian characters and do what people who do not know each other on a SkyTrain would do. The resulting scene was amazing! It was like watching a real-life SkyTrain ride. The students are learning SO much from Ms. Winston.<\/p>\n
